A still from Kattu Kathe.

Director: Raj Praveen

Cast: Rajesh Nataranga, Surya, Swathi Konde, Mithra, Kempegowda and others

Firstly, a farmhouse located in the middle of forest (minus the communication networks apart from landline telephone). Then, the three girls visiting it for a short stay along with a couple of accidental male guests, one of which falls in love with the prettiest girl among the three, and finally a ghost haunting the place when the Sun goes down sound clichéd when it comes to the age old movie recipe for a horror/murder mystery tale.

Well, the director has cooked a similar mystery with the similar recipe. But, what makes it watchable, is the special care in its presentation. Also, the humour leaves one deaf! Further, the decent humour keeps it going as the mystery behind the three murders gets murkier. So, who killed them all? Is it the ghost or someone else is for the special officer played the Rajesh Nataranga to unravel.

While the movie title with the tagline - a real story gives away some clue but in reality it is not a real story! Why does it leave the audience deaf is for the audience to 'experience’ it on the screen.

There is indeed some lacuna such as draggy and unwanted scenes. While the first half is a mix of horror and humour, the second half is all about the intelligence behind the probe into the murders. It gives an idea to the audience on how actual police investigates, and some may only wish if there to be so advanced and quick in real life police investigations.

The talented Surya, the lover boy put up the laughter show while the pretty girl played by Searching does a pretty job but it is the special police officer who uses his brain for the much needed 'edge of the seat experience who scores it big. Mithra yet again showcases his acting skills along with others. It is one of those rare movies wherein the cast is at their best.

A lot better than the movies which hit the screens with huge expectations and eventually turns out to be an utter nonsense, Kattu Kathe offers two plus hours of decent entertainment even though it is churned out from the usual mystery tale.
