X-Men - Apocalypse movie review: Much firepower, not much thrill

X-Men are back to entertain with much more firepower. It’s transforming more into an internal battle, a battle of minds. James McAvoy (Professor X) is a transformation as an actor, and as a character too. In his third in the series he comes across as a more evolved person at the helm of affairs. His institution for the mutants seems a bit common from outside, but inside exist the wonders of the world.

Apocalypse is not a new idea, but the presentation is what makes it special. Bryan Singer has managed to present it well despite a few not-so-special moments. And a special mention must be made of the bad guy. Oscar Isaac has played a very convincing Apocalypse, one that is intriguing as well as threatening.

The X-Men series has achieved another milestone in terms of presentation but one would have liked more involvement with their training. They keep talking about having control over their powers, but they never show a training session for something like that. I suppose they don’t want to reveal their teaching methodology or their teacher-student ratios.

It’s a good watch and for a movie like X-Men: Apocalypse, you may choose to sit at the fence and enjoy the show, or you may dive in and discover several references, a creative method to handle subjects, a high tempo and an action-packed story that also has firepower.
