Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum movie review: Failed by poor script
The bottom-line is, though, with talented actors on board, the lack of a compelling script lands the movie in a not-so-impressive list.
Cast: Tovino Thomas, Pia Bajpai, Suhasini, Rohini, Prabhu
Director: B.R. Vijayalakshmi
Malayalam’s present most bankable actor Tovino Thomas is back with his new movie Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum. The film is released in both Tamil (Abhi and Anu) and Malayalam. Being his first Tamil film, since its first teaser, the film promised a lot for the fans. The romantic film talks about two cupids, Abhimanyu and Anu, and their fearless love. Director B.R. Vijayalakshmi’s Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum has Tovino playing Abhi and Pia Bajpai in the role of Anu.
The film starts with Tovino’s monologue indicating he wants to undo something bad which happened in his and Anu’s life, throwing the element of suspense. But the next scene shows very mediocre and silly adventure of Anu. She is seen controlling an elephant which appears to have run amok. Her adventures continue as Abhi falls in love with her. Though the film talks about a sound topic, on the whole, it fails to impress. Tovino does a decent job with his acting skills and unlike his recent films, there are no challenging moments to call it extraordinary. For Pia, who has more than 15 films to her credit, the role of Anu was a piece of cake as it is a normal character that she does so often. The supporting cast including Suhasini, Rohini and Prabhu did a decent job that justifies their respective roles.
B.R. Vijayalakshmi’s direction skill is good but if someone feels that Asia’s first female cinematographer could have done better in the execution of a brave theme, they can’t be blamed. Shot in Vagamon and Chennai, the film’s cinematography is praiseworthy. Those who are not the fans of dubbed dialogues and shabby lip moments will have a tough time. The director’s decision to have both Tamil and Malayalam dialogues is an attempt to tackle the issue. The bottom-line is, though, with talented actors on board, the lack of a compelling script lands the movie in a not-so-impressive list.
