An eclectic mix that creates pure magic!
This Chennai-based quartet spreads a warm glow with their music.
A mix of Tamil and English with a splash of jazz - sounds ideal to bring in the New Year, doesn’t it? That’s what ‘Joint By The Sea’ or ‘J by da C, as it’s funkily called, delivers.
The four up-and-coming musicians, Jeric Fernando, Gheshna Nagendra, Karthik, and Vaja, who make up this Indie band, are eclectic in their choice of genres. “We love doing songs that we emotionally connect with and bring it out on stage to create a warm and glowing aura”, they tell us.
The four met for the first time atan open mic event organized by “House of T”. Gheshna says, “We happened to jam five minutes before the open mic and the result was pure magic. Ever since then, we’ve been sharing our music with audiences in Chennai. We bring our unique flavours to the stage and it is electrifying each time, even if we say so ourselves.”
It was Gheshna who came up with the unusual name for the band. All of them were thrilled by the fact that ‘Joint By The Sea’ can mean different things to different people.
All four see Chennai as a charming coastal city and share a love for the sea and the city. “We also jam by the sea and write songs by the sea together - one for all and all for one”, says Gheshna.
The band has been working on originals for some time, learning and experimenting with new materials. “We want to start the new decade with a bang”, they say. ‘Joint By The Sea’ is looking forward to collaborating with artistes who have the same philosophy as theirs.
Recently, the band was featured in Indie100india, a collaborative music project to support emerging independent musicians who will be mentored by top music producers in Australia and India.
The four-piece band is active on social media, especially on Instagram, where the four members post some of their new pieces. It is currently preparing for alive gig coming up at “The road to Gif” music festival at YMCA grounds on Jan 4 and 5.
