Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award for noted singer Shubha Mudgal
The award is given on the occasion of the birthday of Gandhi on August 20.
New Delhi: Noted singer Shubha Mudgal will be conferred the 23rd Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award for her outstanding contribution towards promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill.
The decision was taken by the Advisory Committee of the Award which met here recently, its Member Secretary Motilal Vora said on Thursday.
The award was instituted to commemorate the lasting contribution made by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to promote peace, communal harmony and fight against violence. It carries a citation and cash award of Rs 10 lakh.
The award is given on the occasion of the birthday of Gandhi on August 20.
Earlier recipients of the Award include Mother Teresa, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Lata Mangeshkar and Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Swami Agnivesh, Muzaffar Ali, Teesta Setalvad and Harsh Mander (jointly), among others.
Born into a musically dedicated family, Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India.
Trained by eminent scholar-musician-composer Pandit Ramashreya Jha ‘Ramrang’, she also received guidance from Pt. Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. Her noted songs include Abb ke sawan aise barse, beh jaye rang meree chunar se... and Mann ke Manjeere.
