Journey through Ragas' with flute
Following the concert, there will be a Kathak performance by 12 artistes from Delhi.
As part of the Margazhi celebrations in Phoenix MarketCity, flautist maestro Shashank Subrahmanyam will perform along with a popular mridangam vidwan from Chennai and a popular tabla artiste from Mumbai on Sunday evening. Following the concert, there will be a Kathak performance by 12 artistes from Delhi. The artiste, who has been playing for last 35 years enriched by the inputs from Carnatic and Hindustani music, says, “This presentation will be about my musical journey with the flute”.
While music leaves different interpretations, “I often derive inspiration from different genres; you will hear a lot of wonderful flute playing techniques and interaction of meditative to entertaining moment in the concert,” Shashank said while speaking on his performance. “It’s a classical bamboo flute concert, themed on ‘Journey through Ragas of South India,” he added
Shashank has propelled the bamboo flute into an enviable position by his playing techniques of which ‘the multi flute transposed fingering technique’ and the ‘dual octave production’ have won him world acclaim. Shashank’s landmark concerts include Rashtrapathi Bhavan in 1992, Skopje Jazz Festival – Macedonia, Copenhagen Jazz Festival – Denmark, National Theater in Taipei- Taiwan, Fajr Music Festival in Tehran-Iran and Fes Festival in Morocco.
Shashank Subrahmanyam, who is a child prodigy, has been performing from the age of 6 years and has performed in concerts worldwide over three decades. The musician is also working with a project on spreading Indian classical music among school children of Europe, amid his other projects lined up.
