A musical tribute to Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa who loved everyone to the fullest has always been a personal pride for every Indian. For today’s young god-fearing generation, watching her being canonised was awe-inspiring. Expressing their reverence and admiration to the saint, many have come out with special tributes to Mother. And Terena Mary Abraham brought out a heartfelt song, believing it would be an apt tribute to the great woman. The Amme Nin Vazhiye, penned, composed and rendered by Teena, was launched on YouTube and has been garnering a growing fan following since then.

“I am not a professional songwriter. I write sometimes when I am inspired. My basic thought is this: Not everyone can become a Mother Teresa, but if each of us can take even the smallest effort to bring about a positive change, it could bring a lot of comfort to people around us. This was the inspiration behind the lyrics.” Music has been a part of Teena’s life since the age of five. Although she has BTech and MBA, music finally found a way back into her life despite a busy professional life. “I started off with IBM. It has been 10 years and I never had time for music. But in the past two years, I made a decision that getting a fat salary and living a mechanical life is not a life and found time for music. This is my second avatar. I work part-time as a project manager at Infopark now.”

Speaking more about the song she says, “This song has been in my mind for a while now. It so happened that this was a beautiful time to offer it as a tribute. She was becoming a saint, not just for Christians, but for every person in the world. When I conceived this song, I discussed this with Sasikumar C, my music teacher from school. He helped me with the programming. When it came to the visuals, I spoke to a couple of people who directed me to director Johns John. I conveyed my idea that the visual should convey message to people from all walks of life. That’s how we decided to cast a young child in the album because we can convey a lot of messages through children.”

Teena had previously released a song on Kerala Piravi day called Amma Malayalam. A voice-over artist and an anchor who brings out inspiring stories, Teena has lent voice to countless jingles and devotional songs. “Although music writing happened recently, I believe that it is the apt medium for me to communicate,” she signs off.
