Yashwanth Nag, an upcoming music director, recently won the Best Music Composer award for the film Dream of Colours at Avatharana Filmotsavam conducted by the Government of Telangana.

Born into a family of musicians, Yashwanth took to music from his childhood and learnt how to play the drums, guitar and the keyboard. “The seven musical notes are my biggest inspiration. When I listen to the swaras, I feel I belong to music,” shares Yashwanth, who worked as a music director for Telugu feature film Neeku Naaku Dash Dash when he was just 23-years-old. “It helped me to make a mark in the industry and got people to recognise my work,” he says.

With a background in sound engineering, Yashwanth works closely with directors who support his passion for music as well as sound design. He shares, “I have around 10 years of experience in radio as a sound engineer and a music composer. Now, I am looking forward to working purely in films.”

Describing his various projects, Yashwanth says, “I am presently travelling and collaborating with musicians across various countries. Next month, I am releasing a trilingual track in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil. I am also working on a film as a music composer.”

Nominated for the New York Festivals for radio jingles, Yashwanth says, “There are many challenges for an upcoming music composer and one of them is the limited budgets for films. Because of this, we are unable to bring out the best of our talent as we are technically restricted.” But no matter how many obstacles come his way, Yashwanth continues to work on a lot of Telugu short films alongside a few ad films as a music composer and singer.
