Radhika Sethumadhavan: Dream Team
Singer Radhika Sethumadhavan talks about working with legendary musician Jerry Amaldev, a long time wish.
For singer Radhika Sethumadhavan, it had been a long-time wish to work with music composer Jerry Amaldev. Finally, Radhika will be releasing her first album composed by Jerry Amaldev. Jalarekhakal, the first song which released on January 26, has been shared and noticed online for its deep verses and haunting music.
Speaking about the collaboration, Radhika says, “I approached Jerry Amaldev sir with a desire to do a few good songs. He then put me through to K. Jayakumar sir. They both have a long standing working relationship. That is how the team formed. It was a long process. We took our time and the songs were composed over a period of one year.”
The album has a total of five songs and Jalarekhakal is the first. “As of now, we are planning to release them as singles, we have not named the album yet.” Elaborating more about the album, she says, “The album has melodies, both love and devotional songs. Each of the songs is different, we even have a disco song. All the other songs are comparatively simple compared to Jalarekhakal, it was very intense, the heaviest of the lot.”
Jalarekhakal, which refer to lines drawn on water, are a metaphor that conveys nothing in life is permanent. The song was noticed and loved for its haunting melody. K. Jayakumar’s words speak of long lost love and longing. Radhika has been performing live with her own band for over a year now. While most young musicians approach new-gen musicians, Radhika approached veteran Jerry Amaldev. On why she picked Amaldev, Radhika says, “Jerry Amaldev sir has a style of his own which is very simple and deep. He is very versatile. When it comes to Jalarekhakal, he has orchestrated it in such a way that the lyrics stand out. It was a big dream of mine to work with him and by God’s grace I got a chance to live my dream. He is a wonderful human being and treated me like his own daughter.”
On her other upcoming musical ventures, she says, “I have sung a song for the film Take Off. The music is composed by Shaan Rahman. It is a duet with him, a lovely situational song. Besides that I am will be doing a lot of performances.”
