Music from the heart
The band Dhwani was in the city recently and DC caught up with them to know them more.
Dhwani - a troupe of singers and performers from Kolkata who have performed in various cities across the globe were in Chennai.
The artistes Srriram, Sarita and Navin are the core of the troupe who have performed in more than 30 Indian and foreign languages. A unique concoction of the enigmatic blend of Srriram's deep voice, Sarita's sweet vocal delivery and Navin's versatility & energy turns the stage into an arena of unbelievable music.
Srriram left his banker job, Navin left his business and Sarita being a homemaker continues to follow the passion. The core troupe generally practices for a few hours three days a week, and when a show is coming up they practice all day, all week. Trained in Western classical music as well as Hindustani music, the shows are multi-lingual with a little bit of regional folk and traditional songs as well as film songs from both Bollywood and Hollywood.
Srriram says, "We were expecting a rocking crowd who would participate. We were hoping to be able to make them sing and dance along with us which they did."
The troupe opened the act with a LED presentation and then performed Bollywood songs, both yesteryear and latest, along with Rajasthani music and ending it with a surprise in Tamil songs. They also sang in bits of parts in Spanish, German and African languages.
"By bringing in a world renowned band, Dhwani gives us a sense of immense pride and honour." says Mukesh Gupta, event coordinator of Shree Agarwal Samaj, Chennai who recently hosted the band.
