We had earlier reported that the team of the Telugu-Tamil-Hindi trilingual film Sangamithra — Shruti Haasan, Sundar C., Arya and Jayam Ravi along with the film’s producers —  would be walking the red carpet of the opening night at the Cannes film festival on May 18. It is now learnt that A.R. Rahman, who has been roped in as the film’s music director, will be joining the team at the French destination.

“The Academy award-winning composer will be a huge value addition to the team in the international scene and everyone is quite elated that he’d be joining them,” reveals a source, adding, “Since the film is being made on a huge scale, the makers want to position the film right. And having Rahman on board is surely going to be a huge boost for them.”

Producer Narayanan Ramasamy, Chairman and MD, Thenandal Studios, the film’s producer who will also be present at the fest, says, “This is a very ambitious epic period film and a prestigious one for us. We are very proud to have A.R. Rahman on board. The Cannes unveiling with Rahman, Sabu Cyril (art director), Sundar (director) and the entire lead cast is just a beginning of many milestones, we are to achieve with the film.”

Meanwhile, cinematographer Tirru, stunt master Peter Hein, designer Anju Modi and VFX specialist R.C. Kamalakannan will look after the other important aspects of the film. The team will resume the pre-production in June, and the film is expected to go on the floors in August.
