Pursuing a solo journey ahead
Singer Vasudha Sharma shares with us journey with Aasma so far and performing as Miss v.
Vasudha Sharma has come a long way since winning a TV show and becoming part of a music band. Today, the independent singer and composer has found her niche in the industry.
Creating ripples in her new avatar Miss V, or Vasudha Sharma, who shot to fame as a member of the millennial teen band Aasma, went on to make a mark as an independent musician and composer today. Looking back, Vasudha elaborates that her life changed after Aasma and she has not looked back since.
“Coming into the music industry was not a conscious decision but it just happened. But my love for music can be traced back to my childhood days. Whenever I used to visit my aunt’s place, she would teach me Krishna bhajans. And I feel rejuvenated even today every time I sing it,” she says. Talking about creating and performing as Miss V, she says, “Whatever songs I have done till now, are very rustic and organic. But as Miss V, I have composed more of electronic music. Take for instance, Blinded by Love — it’s like satisfying my alter ego. I am a bit of both.”
Vasudha’s transformation into the avatar of Miss V has just started and presently, the talented pop singer is working on an extended play record in this new style. “I am working on the music video which will release in September and I’ll follow it up with a tour of the Netherlands and the US,” she says. Not only that, Vasudha is also planning a concert in Chennai, where she will sing bhajans with an electronic music set-up.
On the one hand, she is passionate about what she pens down as a composer and on the other, Vasudha loves singing. So, which does she love more, we ask. “I am more of a composer than a singer. I love to write and sing my originals but I am equally open to singing Bollywood numbers on stage. I make sure to add my personal touch to it and not to stick to the original score,” she answers.
Another of Vasudha’s original creations, which is all set to be the next chartbuster, is Jasba, where she has sung with her bandmates of Sharma and the Besharams (a six-member band). Talking more about some of her upcoming releases, Vasudha says, “Jasba is very close to my heart. I will release by this month end; the music is uptempo and upbeat.”
For her, writing songs is an organic journey, sometimes it is done in a few hours; and sometimes, years. When asked about whether she would be foraying into Bollywood, Vasudha says, “I really love Bollywood music but can’t see myself doing playback, instead I can be a composer,” she says, before leaving for the recording studio.
