Bengaluru: Music lovers are in for a double treat with Grammy award winner, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Rajyothsava awardee, Dr. Mysore Manjunath,  set to perform in the city on Sunday  in an  event, which will offer a rare jugalbandi   of Hindustani and Carnatic music. While the former will play the Mohana veena,  the latter will join him on the  violin.

“Both Hindustani and Carnatic music have their commonalities and distinctive qualities. Their coming together will be a  unique experience,” said Dr. R Balasubramaniam, president of the  Indiranagar Sangeetha Samiti, which has organised this unusual  musical evening at the Purandara Bhavan in HAL,  stage II.

 “We have taken great pains to make the auditorium echo- free to ensure that the quality of music  performed is enhanced  and the live experience is all the more enjoyable for it,” informed Mr. S.N.S Murthy, former president and a patron of the Samiti.

 Besides holding concerts to entertain music lovers of the city, the organisation also runs a school of performing arts that not only trains students in both Carnatic and Hindustani vocals and instruments but also produces excellent Bharatnatyam and Kathakali dancers. Said  Mr. Murthy , “When we started the school, we had 30 students and today we have over 900.”
