Rinosh George

You heard him croon Idhu Bengaluru Idhu Namma Ooru last year and capture the hearts of thousands of Bengalureans. He’s now back with another video which has gone viral and deservedly so. Singer Rinosh George’s I’m a Mallu, a groovy and catchy rap number has garnered more than five lakh views within a week of its release.

In a candid chat with us, the singer gets talking about his Malayali blood, his acting aspirations and more. “After This is Bengaluru, I was waiting to do something that would go viral. One of my friends suggested that I write a song about Mallus (Malayalis).  I wasn’t too sure about the idea in the beginning. But I was trying my hand at films and getting rejected by producers, so I wanted to do something that would work in the Kerala market,” says Rinosh, who’s overwhelmed by the response the video has received.

“I expected it to be a hit considering the content was in English. But the response has exceeded my expectations. Even Telugites, Tamilians and Kannadigas are sharing the song and finding it catchy – the reactions have been phenomenal. Bharath Parashuram, who is the cinematographer for the video has done a great job,” he shares.

For someone who’s trying really hard to make a mark in movies, the best response he got, he says is from a viewer who posted ‘Dear Cinema, Rinosh George is on his way’ as a comment.

Taking us back to his early years, the Kerala-born rapper says, “When I was in school, I started writing songs in my notebook. Professionally, I started off as a DJ in 2008. I did that for a year or two. People would come up to me and request me to play a song by a particular artiste. I realised that I wanted them to request a song sung by me.”

As for his future projects, Rinosh says, “I want to take my time and think about what I want to do next. I’m open to working in any film industry. Being brought up in Bengaluru, one ends up learning a lot of languages. I just want to do good movies – language is no barrier. My ultimate goal is to be a superstar!” Well, it looks like he’s already on his way to becoming one.
