As a kid born and brought up in Bangkok, Aishwarya Suresh moved around a lot. “My guitar was just a piece of furniture that moved with me. Until I picked it up and decided to learn it,” says the talented singer now based out of Bengaluru. Since then, she dropped Chemistry as a subject in the tenth grade, started her own YouTube channel and is now on The Stage 2, belting out pop numbers and making it to the top 10 on the show on Colors Infinity.

“A couple of months ago, reality shows were out of my comfort zone. That’s one of the reasons I started singing on YouTube, that way, I wouldn’t have had to go up on the stage,” she tells us. But coming from a family where both her father and sister crooned in front of crowds at family gatherings, her only thought – “How long will I not face my fear?”

The 18-year-old who is big on alternate rock takes inspiration from artistes such as Alt-J and Lucy Rose. “Adele’s personality is something I look up to. I believe that humility is one of the greatest qualities an artiste can have, and she embodies that,” says Aishwarya, a student of International Business at Jain University in Bengaluru.

She also plays the ukulele, but one of her biggest challenges she says is to adapt her voice to pop music. While it may not be easy for her to sing in front of judges, people, other talented souls and the camera, but she believes that this experience is helping her come out of her shell.

“It’s all constructive criticism. There’s no negative competition and we all bring the best out in each other. For me, it goes beyond winning or signing a contract. Winning will actually mean overcoming my confidence issues,” she says.
