Thiruvananthapuram: After Thiruvananthapuram's fishermen, its young musicians are doing what they can for Kerala. They are putting together a concert named 'Do for Kerala' on September 2, from 3 pm to 9 pm, at Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan.

All proceeds from this will be submitted to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.

The organisers, friends who jammed together in college, are inspired by the benefit concerts put together by legendary musicians, but not just that. "We were inspired by sex workers in Maharashtra and transgender persons in Tamil Nadu who contributed what they could as flood relief. We were also inspired by the fishermen rescuers. Our line-up consists of musicians from Thiruvananthapuram, who are all struggling. But we wanted to do what we could. This will also be an event in which Thiruvananthapuram's youth, who volunteered in relief collection, can contribute and at the same time, relax," says K Balamohan, one of the organisers.

The ticket charge is kept at Rs 150, so that many can afford. If 500 people turn up, they will be able to contribute Rs 75000. The musicians will be playing for free.

Sponsors' contributions will be used to conduct the event. Anything more, and it will go to Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

Main acts will be performed by 'Kadal' and 'Cut-A-Vibe' (pronounced as 'katta' vibe, in which 'katta' means strong in Malayalam). "There will be a guest performance by Job Kurien, featuring Rony George and Subin Pappachan.

Other performing bands are Copper Planet, Collective Conscious and Eettillam," says Vaisakh M C, an organiser.

The audience can expect a medley of genres, with most bands in the line-up playing progressive rock and melody. Copper Planet and Collective Conscious play metal.
