Thug girl, Ahoy!
Akasa is riding high on the successes of her recent hits. But, what's keeping her busy at the moment is a new pop single...
Starting her singing career in the Bollywood music industry from the time she turned 17, Akasa Singh unleashed her talent in the music scene in India. A trained classical singer, Akasa hails from a musical family. She has been featured in Angels of Rock (MTV) and India’s Raw Star (Star Plus) that gave her a big Bollywood break with the smash-hit Kheech Meri Photo.
Her new pop single, with Sony Music, released recently called the Thug Ranjha. Akasa says, “Collaborating with such a talented team made it extremely fun to work on a song from scratch. I could not have done it without them.”
Despite having highs and lows in her journey, Akasa continued doing what she loves the most. Being a teen she always performed in concerts in colleges but she shares her first gig experience which was totally overwhelming. “I still remember it was a very big Holi bash in Pune and I was opening for Mika Singh. Since I had been performing in college fests before so, I had a bit of a stage experience but this was a huge crowd, which was quite nerve wrecking. And Mika turned up a bit late and I ended up performing for like 45 minutes, it was just unreal! When I got down I was on such a high,” says Akasa.
She performed alongside Mika Singh for about four years after that she made her Bollywood debut with the song Kheech meri photo with Himesh Reshammiya. She says, “After, the debut, considering it went viral and many music directors started approaching me. I did a few really good projects after that but there were definitely more lows than the highs but it’s given me so much exposure and experience. I’m so much more grateful for those lows. It is an industry where there is a lot more competition but if you get through it, it’s a sweet journey ahead.”
Sunidhi Chauhan is her musical inspiration and she thinks her voice is a like a live wire and among the international artists it’s Beyoncé songs and Adele’s iconic voice.
But apart from music, she says, “I was doing a bit of acting, for television for sometime in a Punjabi show. And as my mom says that there is always a little bit of nautanki in me.”
What’s next for this Bollywood singing sensation she elaborates, “I am working on the next single that we have already started working on. The remix on Amazon prime was the last digital project I worked on and now I am working with Shilpa Shetty on a project for her new show. I’m most excited about opening for Bolly-boom in Ahmedabad and performing Thug Ranja with Guru Randhawa.”
