Winning hearts in Telangana: Sinov Raj
Sinov Raj has lent his voice to Hey Pillagada from the Telugu film Fidaa, featuring Sai Pallavi.
There is a new song on everyone’s lips. No, not in Kerala but in Telangana. The song Hey Pillagada from the movie Fidaa starring everyone’s favourite “Malar ma’am” — Sai Pallavi — is a roaring success. So what is the Kerala connection? Our lad Sinov Raj has lent his voice to the song and people are loving it! For the uninitiated, Sinov Raj is the lead vocalist of the music band Tatva the band, which came out with the song Hey Bro — dedicated to the former Kozhikode Collector Prashanth Nair.
Speaking about how he landed an offer to sing for a Telugu movie, he says, “I made a cover of one of the songs from Bangalore Days and the music director of Fidaa — Shaktikanth Karthick — happened to hear it through two of my friends. So, I was called in to sing the tracks for the song in Fidaa and by God’s grace he liked it. Shaktikanth spoke to the director and producers and they were ok with it too. That’s how it happened.” Sai Pallavi’s Malayali fans have already come across the song, and it is slowly catching up here too. However, in Telangana both the movie and the songs have been receiving rave reviews. “The movie is a hit there. My friends there have been messaging me about this song,” he says.
Sinov says the song is a happy, groovy love song. “Hey Pillagada literally translates to ‘Hey baby’. The specialty of this movie as far as I have understood is that after the formation of Telangana, this is the first one to capture the true culture of Telangana. The songs too mirror the culture,” he says. Giving us a peek into Sinov’s stint with music, he says “My introduction to music happened through my aunt, who used to take me with her to the music class. Even though I’ve attended Carnatic music classes, I would not call myself a classical musician. I prefer singing melodies and rock songs.” Tatva the band has not released any other song after the successful Hey Bro. What is in store for Tatva the band? “Tatva is currently working on two or three of our own compositions. We are hopeful of bringing them out in the next two months,” he says.
