British rock band Coldplay ignited an online buzz as the band collaborated with BookMyShow to open ticket sales for their upcoming concerts in Mumbai on Sunday. The band is set to perform at the DY Patil Sports Stadium, Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra on January 18, 19, and 21.

However, the fans were left disappointed as the website crashed within minutes as the booking started and the tickets got sold out. The waitlist surged to an astonishing 11 lakh.
As the concert tickets of upcoming music events of Coldplay and Diljit Dosanjh were sold out within minutes of going live on booking platforms such as BookMyShow and Zomato in India, they became rapidly available on Viagogo at a very high resale scale.

But what is Viagogo?

Viagogo is one of the premier secondary ticket marketplaces globally. As per the official website, this platform allows people to free themselves from the hassles of virtual queues and constant refreshing while purchasing event tickets online.
It enables sellers to set their prices and saves buyers from missing out on events. The platform offers a variety of choices from a broad spectrum of entertainment events such as music, dance comedy, etc.
However, Viagogo is in the limelight as the ticket sales on this website are much higher. As per reports, the Coldplay concert tickets for the India tour were being sold for up to Rs 3 lakh, while the passes that were on the official partner ticketing site were on sale officially for Rs 38,000.
Many people have claimed foul play by alleging that the official ticket platforms are creating shortages and are making passes available on third-party sites for much higher prices through ticket scalping.

Ticket Scalping:

Ticket Scalping involves using bots to buy bulk tickets from legitimate platforms which are then reselled at a much higher price for profit.
These tickets are of any type but majorly it includes Music and Sports events. It is known as ticket reselling and ticket touting.
According to Imperva, it is estimated that a huge 40% of online ticket sales are by scalper bots.
After Coldplay concert tickets in India got sold out on the website, BookMyShow issued a statement that read, "It has come to our attention that unauthorized platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid."
"Ticket scalping is illegal and punishable by law. Please don't fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets," the statement further read.
