Citadel Honey Bunny Review : Samantha and Varun Dhawan impress with stunts

Citadel Honey Bunny is a spin-off show of the original series with the same title. Directed by the Farzi and The Family Man fame duo director Raj and DK, the show is about Honey struggling actress and Bunny Stuntman in action films, how their worlds turn after they go against the Citadel universe, and how they reunite for their daughter. This is the basic premise of this 8-episode series on Amazon Prime Video.

The series has a stellar star cast including Varun Dhawan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Salim, Sikander Kher, Simran, Shivakit Singh Parihar, Soham Majumdar, and the star of the series Kashvi Majumdar playing the role of Nadia Honey and Bunny's 7-year-old daughter.

The film goes back and forth between the late 80s and early 200s, where we get to see a Mumbai that was still Bombay; from the bell bottoms to the Coca-Cola and Goli Sodas to the trunks, everything was perfect, even the clips where the main characters are watching their appearances in the films they have acted in, the VCR, and the nostalgic TV all in for the nostalgia factor.

Coming to the action set pieces, Raj and DK have a very realistic approach to how they like to choreograph the action sequences. I loved how the camera moves with the actors in sequences of powerful combat action scenes, especially the ones featuring Samantha and Varun going hand in hand with others. It was realistic because they are shown reloading their guns and there is no over-the-top action of slow-motion walks where the villain is falling behind.

The plot of the story is the age-old good over the bad, the group of boys falling apart because of the girl, and many other routine stuff, but the way Raj and DK have beautifully integrated the story and the location is worth the watch.

I loved the cameo appearance of Bhuvan, who starred opposite Shahid Kapoor in Farzi, and how they had a whole inside joke about him becoming the hero's best friend.

The unique point in this film is how Honey teaches her daughter Nadia to be strong, fearless, and independent, yet at the same time does not steal away her innocent childhood from her. Varun as Bunny did exceptionally well in the action sequences, and so did Samantha in her solo action scenes.

All in all, this is a series one can watch with their family and have a nostalgic trip to their 90s childhood, as well as enjoy the action sequences.
