Ooru chicks webbed in Kannada
Anish Tejeshwar talks about the web series he recently launched, along with what the future holds.
If you’re looking for desi content and are bored of the ridiculously regressive Indian dramas that air on TV, then going the ‘web series’ way will not disappoint you. Thanks to relatable and new-age content, these Internet serials have garnered a huge fan following. Kannada actor Anish Tejeshwar is one of those artistes who has jumped onto the web bandwagon with his first directorial venture ‘Bengaluru Queens’.
Talking about his series which was launched on YouTube last week, Anish says, “Online content is a big thing now, so I thought of getting into it. If it’s a TV show, you need to watch it at a particular time, but you might be busy then. However, if it’s on the Internet, you can watch it according to your convenience. We’re going to air a new episode every 15 days.” The first venture made by his production house Winkwhistle, Bengaluru Queens is the story of three girls who share an apartment in the city. “The three actresses are Advithi Shetty, Sushmitha Gowda and Chaithra J Achar. The first character is Tech Tanu, who always doubts her boyfriend and being a tech geek, she finds innovative ways to spy on him. The second one is Kirik Karishma, who is always upto some mischief and the third lass is Silent Swathi who’s very religious and performs pujes all the time,” reveals Anish, who has worked with film technicians for his series. “I didn’t want to compromise on the quality,” he adds.
As for movies, the Akira actor is busy with Maanjha and post that, he has a couple of ideas he’s working on under his banner. Having worked in the Telugu industry previously, he maintains that he’s not interested in acting in other language films now. “Everything’s good in the KFI for me. I want to do content-driven films and not just ones that depict heroism. I can play the guy beating up 100 people in one film, but that doesn’t mean I’ll do the same thing in my next movie. I want to switch between different roles. I don’t want people to come to the theatre thinking ‘oh, this is what he does’, instead I want them to think ‘I wonder what he’s doing in this film’.”
As he gets talking about his early days in cinema, Anish reveals his friendship with Sandalwood heartthrob Rakshit Shetty and says, “We started our career together in Nam Areal Ondh Dhina - we’re close buddies. Considering he has a huge online presence, I picked him to launch my web series, because he has a good reach. He’s the right person to reach out to the youth.”
