Even as the highly anticipated release of the season, Kotigobba 2, starring Kiccha Sudeep and Nithya Menen in the lead is set for a grand opening, there are huge expectations from the crew too!

The film will release this week in more than 1,000 screens across the country as a treat for fans on Varamahalakshmi Festival, the film team speaks about the venture, clarifying that it is not a remake project and that it is a “straight” movie which is shot simultaneously in both in Kannada and Tamil.

Not a remake
The director KS Ravikumar opines that the story of the film is written by Shivakumar, for which they have worked for more than a year on the screenplay of the film. However, he reveals that the title was finalised by the producer.

Kotigobba starred thespian late Dr Vishnuvardhan. “I had in fact requested the producer for a change in the title but we realised that the dual roles of characters and the sequences of the film actually suited the title,” says Ravikumar.

He further says that many in Kollywood thought that Mudinja Ivana Pudi is the dubbed version of Kotigobba 2, which was not the case.

“The film is a bilingual one, shot simultaneously in Kannada and Tamil. The people must know that the film has been shot simultaneously, and is not dubbed. We organised an audio release too. In fact, everyone came to know that the film is not dubbed, thanks to the audio release,” he adds.

First commercial venture
Nithya Menen who makes a comeback in Sandalwood after Myna, is excited about Kotigobba 2. Sharing the screen with Kiccha Sudeep for the first time, she says, “I play a simple girl. This would be my first complete commercial venture. Though not traditional, it looks very beautiful. I have always dreamt of working under Kiccha Sudeep’s direction,” says the actress, who is born and brought up in Bengaluru.

I am still recognised as Kiccha!
“Out of the 60 films, I have acted in 13 remake films,” says Kiccha Sudeep while adding that he is still recognised for his roles in remake films such as Huccha thanks to which he is still called Kiccha, the character he had essayed.

“It sometimes becomes inevitable. In my previous ventures, I had given dates to a producer who failed to finalise the story even after six month’s. However, when the delay in the project costed the producer, he asked me to do a remake film. Hence, I acted and directed Maanikya,”  Kiccha adds.

The actor who has had a great run at the box office for the past couple of years feels that when there was no opportunities, he took up other language films like Phoonk, — for which he was taunted for acting in a horror film, “I was fortunate to act alongside a great legend like Amitabh Bachchan. However, it eventually led me to bag Rajamouli’s movie. Everyone cooks idlis at home, but it cannot be deemed as remakes,” he quips as an analogy, adding, “My only aim is to give good and entertaining films, which satisfy me,” signs off Sudeep.
