Rukshar Mir

The UK born actress with a degree in fashion design, made her Sandalwood debut with Katte. She has now  bagged a film opposite Vinay Rajkumar, in his second fim, Run Antony. Rukshar Mir, model turned actress, speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle, about her big break, her journey so far including her Telugu debut film, Showtime being directed by Rajamouli’s brother SS Kanchi, and much more.

“I learnt through a common friend that Vinay’s family was hunting for a lead actress for their next home banner banner project after Siddhartha. They were looking for a relatively fresh face.

Later, I met the director Raghu Shastry and the entire family. It was important for all of them, especially the director to approve of me,” says Rukshar, adding that she was later selected for the role after look tests with Vinay.

Rukshar, had moved from England to Goa where she studied till Grade 9 before relocating to Bengaluru where she joined Baldwin’s and Bishop Cotton’s school, before pursuing a degree in fashion designing. “Though I never had any formal training, my mother always told me that I was very dramatic in front of the camera. As a kid I was always expressive, and I was tom-boyish. It was only after we moved to Bengaluru I started behaving in a more lady-like manner as I was studying in an all girls school. However, I still have a bit of the tomboy left in me,” she smiles, adding that she later started taking part in ramp shows, and got into modelling.

“I did get several offers for films, but I could not take it up due to my studies. After I finished my degree, I took up Katte, as it was a good opportunity to work with a good team. I was not nervous while shooting for Run Antony, as everyone made me feel comfortable on the sets. To portray a character which is close to one’s own real character is always a challenge. The director allowed me to gradually improvise, and it was great fun working with a young team.”

The actress reveals that she enjoyed shooting for the last two songs at Bidar and Kudremukh. “The temperatures were soaring, but the energy on the sets, made this shoot very memorable.”

Before ‘running’ away, the actress shares that she is busy shooting for her Telugu film, Showtime directed by S S Kanchi, which has also been a good experience so far. Rukshar is now on the verge of signing another Telugu film very soon. She is certainly on a good run!
