With a masters degree in psychology from Bangalore University, she had planned a different career before fate intervened by introducing her to the small (television) world of entertainment. It was an unexpected journey, which is now a decade old story for Preethi Srinivas. After making her debut in Saraswathi Lakshmi Priye, she made her acting foray into Telugu television, wherein she made a mark for herself while acting for popular soaps including Rama Seeth Yekkade, which ran for over 1000 episodes. The actress who had decided to take a break from TV for some time to take care of her one-year-old child, has  bagged a brand new soap in Kannada titled Varalakshmi Stores on Star Suvarna. Preethi who is making a comeback to Kannada soaps speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle, about her acting journey so far including a series of unexpected events which eventually brought her fame and popularity.

“My journey as an actress has been filled with unexpected events. Firstly, I never aspired to become an actress especially considering the fact that I hail from an orthodox family, who has no history of anyone working in the film or television industry. It was one of my friends who worked in the television industry and I occasionally accompanied her to the sets. It is here I got recognised and recieved offers to work in tele-serials. My first one was for Suvarna channel before I did Telugu soaps,” says Preethi Srinivas.

She recalls that she had to face the ire of her family members, who initially did not support her decision to act in television. “It was quite a journey, as I had to convince my family about it. Most of the Kannada audience seem to have forgotten me. In fact, I did a Kannada serial in between my Telugu ones but I again left to do Telugu projects,” she explains.

Her comeback in the brand new soap Varalakshmi Stores, talks about family bonding. “On the outset it might sound similar to Kannada super hit movie Yajamana starring Dr. Vishnuvardhan sir but it is quite different when compared to it. I have shot for a few episodes wherein I play the lead female protagonist as the elder daughter-in-law. It highly relevant considering the present state of nuclear family concepts which mostly exists in urban communities these days,” she adds.

Further, she says that she had planned to take a break from work to take care of her child. “The new serial happened at a time when I was looking to take a break but when the channel approached me, I could not refuse it and moreover it is a Kannada serial. My better half, Srinivas who is a doctor by profession, has been the greatest support without whom I could not have continued my work,” Preethi concludes.
