Couple power
Rocking Star Yash and his better half Radhika Pandit have carved a niche for themselves in Sandalwood for over a decade.
The two first met on the sets of Kannada television serial Nanda Gokula in the early 2000s, as they started off their journey as actors. In fact, they both made their debut with Moggina Manassu, which earned them recognition in the form of a series of awards. The two were good friends throughout their career before they eventually tied the knot a couple of years ago. Now, blessed with a baby girl, the couple are in the prime of their life, both personally and professionally.
Radhika is expecting their second child while Yash is busy with the shooting for the second chapter of his magnum opus KGF. Also, post their marriage, Radhika makes a comeback with Aadi Lakshmi Purana, which hits the theatre this week.
“It was during the shooting of Masterpiece. Suhasini-madam told me about the story penned by director Priya, who has worked with the legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam. I was very impressed with it and eventually shared it with the producer Rockline Venkatesh. That apart, I had no role to play in the film Aadi Lakshmi Purana. In fact, when Radhika’s name was proposed to play the lead, I made it clear that I do not have any say in her choice of films and it is always left to her,” says Yash.
As he goes onto recollect his initial days and working with Radhika, he adds, “We have always been good friends and never had any say or influence in each other’s work, which is evident to this date. In fact, she has rejected many of the films which had me in the main lead and even I have not signed a few projects with Radhika as heroine. It has remained the same even after our marriage.”
Delighted that her husband launched the trailer for the first time, Radhika shares that it has been a wonderful journey so far. “I had previously announced that an extra special guest will be part of my film event, and I can’t thank him enough for being part of it and it’s a moment of joy to see my better half doing the honours. Insofar as the film is concerned, director Priya has etched a beautiful tale with great characters, which the audience can relate to. And, it is a completely fun plot revolving around circumstantial lies,” she shares.
After their debut, both were paired in several hit movies and their previous venture Mr and Mrs Ramachari broke several box-office records. It marked the debut of director Santhosh Ananddram, who went on to direct Raajakumara starring Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, which set a new trend in the industry.
On missing his better half on the big screen, Yash shares that though he being her husband, he misses her the most as an actress as she is a fantastic actress.
“I always keep telling her how fabulous she is an actress and moreover she has more awards and recognition than me. Even when we work together, I sometimes share with her my plans on how to give our best for a scene, and when I overdo it, she has at times told me to not teach her how to act,” he laughs.
