Mumbai: Prasar Bharti CEO Jawahar Sircar who had yesterday offered to quit has put in his papers today. Sircar has expertise on culture and writes columns regularly in various newspapers.

Sircar who was appointed by the erstwhile UPA government has served in the Ministry of Culture as secretary for over three years from 2008 to 2012 after which he was appointed at Prasar Bharti.

The Information and Broadcasting minister Venkaiah Naidu recently conducted review of functioning of the state-run entity.

In 2014 ahead of the General Elections, Sircar had written a letter to Prasar Bharati board members about an interview of the then Gujarat chief minitser Narendra Modi saying the Modi interview had raised questions on the "impartiality" of the public broadcaster — Doordarshn.

The state-run channel had censored Modi's remarks on Priyanka Gandhi and his relationship with Congress leader Ahmed Patel at that time.
