Still from the show

Bitsie Tulloch is a force to be reckoned with as Juliette Silverton aka Eve who searches for answers while delving deeper and deeper into the supernatural world. As she transformed into a Hexenbiest (a witch-like creature that resembles a corpse) in Grimm and then came back as Eve — stronger and better — her acting chops were for all to see. She talks about the new developments and more.

How do you like how your character’s development — changing and growing more powerful?
I feel blessed because how often do you get to play multiple characters on the same TV show?

We now have an entirely new character. It’s also fun to play around and experiment. I was thrilled about the Hexenbiest story line because Juliette had been so consistently good, thoughtful and helpful for so long.

I will admit that I had mixed feelings when the producers called me in March and said, “This is our idea going into Season 5” because it was hard to say goodbye to Juliette.

By that time, I had played her in various iterations, whether good or bad, for four years. I knew I was going to miss her. But, I’m having a blast with this new character Eve. I had to research a lot — and was asked to watch the Lupus on Nikita for inspiration.

I was filming Season 5, obviously privately, because no one could talk about it. Even my name was changed in the cast sheet and everything queue so that no background or (unintelligible) would even know it was me. There were lots of layers to keep the secret.

So, was there any challenge physical or mentally to get into this new character?
Definitely. For me, personally, it was hard to let go of Juliette because everybody else is still playing their same character. So, I’m working with actors, who I’m used to being with in this world, and relating to them through this other character is tough.

Physically — I was only off for four episodes. But I started training way more heavily than I have done before just to stay strong. I have been eating a lot of protein. To sell the fact that this is a new character, I had to do something physical. It couldn’t just be a different dialogue, dress or wearing wigs.
And then psychologically, to truly feel like I’m a new person and that she’s dead and “I’m not Juliette anymore!”

Having said that, does she have residual feelings from her past life?
Right now, her primary focus is getting the job done. And you know there’s an episode coming up where she has kind of a heart-to-heart with Nick. She was so powerful and so out of control and basically did not know how to reign in the Hexenbiest powers.

She couldn’t be more focused on being controlled and just getting that job done. And obviously, Hadrian’s Wall is a powerful and positive group that’s basically formed in response to battling Black Claw, which is like the big huge uprising that’s starting to happen.
