While television is no different from movies in terms of entertainment, it has a slight advantage because of the long term relationship of the audience with a long running serial. To sustain this — keep the audience interested and be relevant in the never-ending tales is a huge challenge in itself. Thus, television does get involved in special promotions to engage with its loyal audience directly. And in diverse ways, the television industry has invented its own ways and means to stay on the pulse, and popularise shows and programmes. One such attempt is to woo the audience with contests on various social media platforms, and Internet carriers with offers of gifts and surprises. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on the contesting acts on TV.

With love in the air, and Valentine’s at its peak, Zee Kannada has specially webbed a contest for its audience, and lucky ones will get to visit their stars on the sets along with a date or even with their entire family! The latest contest run under the hashtag #ZKValentinesDayContest is alive and kicking on the channel’s Facebook page. The prize for the lucky winners is a chance to spend a day on the sets of their favourite fiction show, and enjoy a lunch date with the entire team!

“We have launched an ultra-special contest for our viewers. Viewers can visit our FB page and answer a few questions about our channel’s fictional artists from shows including Jodi Hakki, Naagini, Vidya Vinayaka and Yaare Nee Mohini. Lucky winners get a chance to spend a day on the sets of any of these shows, and also have an extravagant lunch date with the team,” says a spokesperson for the channel.

The contest is open till February 16. A total of eight winners will be chosen based on their prompt responses and the reason they chose that star for a lunch date.
In the past, the audience has tried to guess the twists in future episodes for cash prizes, and even gold coins. They even have their polls, to vote for their favourite stars in a reality show. Some stars like Sushma who essays the popular character Belli from Yaare Nee Mohini shares her Valentine wish, “There can be no other happiness for me than to go on a long drive passing through thick forests with my Valentine.” Signing off, Deekshith Shetty who plays Arjun from Naagini, reveals that he has always been a great fan of veteran artiste Julie Lakshmi, and wishes he could go on a date with a perfect Kannadathi girl such as Lakshmi.
