It is one of the most widely played song on Kannada television on Ugadi. Undoubtedly, a special occasion for families to come together celebrating the festival of joy, and to spend quality time, to rejoice in the festivities. It is among the best times for Kannada television channels where they showcase a variety of special programmes and shows as a feast for the entire family while they savour favourite dishes at home. “One of main attractions on television during such festivities are always star attractions, special programmes and interviews on various channels including news channels. Ugadi is a special day where families meet and greet each other. Showcasing important temples, it is star actors who share how they celebrate the festival with their families and friends which sends TV rating points skyrocketing. New movies are aired in the evening for audiences to chill out with family members,” says Santosh, a TV programme head.
“The other attractions are special cookery shows with festive recipes, mostly with celebrities cooking,” says Pradeep, an assistant director at one such show.
One the eve of the festival, an award event is also being held to honour the best in the state. “Karnataka is a land of many remarkable achievers and at the same time, we feel extremely honoured to be able to not just acknowledge, but reward contributions in our daily lives,” says Raghavendra Hunsur, business head, Zee Kannada on Hemmeya Kannadiga which goes on air this weekend on the eve of Ugadi.
