She started her career as a child actress in the 90s, and rose to fame with her grand debut opposite Hat-Trick Hero Shivarajkumar in Hrudaya Hrudaya. She then went on to act in several mega-hit ventures. The daughter of veteran actress Gayathri Prabhakar, a renowned movie personality and dubbing artiste in the Kannada industry, Anu Prabhakar returns to the smallscreen in her first-ever full-fledged drama in Star Suvarna’s Triveni Sangama. The actress, who recently married model-actor Raghu Mukherjee shares more about her small screen venture, being newly married and more.
“Though I have acted in a couple of serials in the past, they were all short appearances in special roles. This is my first full-fledged mega-serial, and so far, it has been a nice experience. Many friends and colleagues keep asking me about the differences in working for TV and films. Well, I guess, I always felt that the phenomena of acting remains the same, irrespective of language or medium, be it films, TV or any other platform. I have always enjoyed performing in front of cameras, and Triveni Sangama impressed me as I could relate to it to some extent in reality as well,” says Anu Prabhakar.
In Triveni Sangama, the pretty actress plays the role of a middle-aged woman, who is a musician playing the Veene, and it is her journey on how she finds a path of her own to chart amidst all personal challenges that ensues. “Initially, Vaani, (the role I essay) was a single, confident and independent woman who eventually finds a partner with similar interests. Though they get married, once she starts excelling in music, many differences come to the fore, which leads to their separation. And her on a new path. She then brings up her child as a single parent,” she reveals.
On managing work and home, the beautiful Anu explains that she has learned to juggle career and personal life from her mother who had raised both her brother and her as toddlers, despite being so busy working in the industry. “I am known as Gayathri Prabhakar’s daughter. It was even Pravathamma and Appaji (Dr Rajkumar) who recognised me as Gayathri Prabhakar’s daughter and thanks to that I got the offer to act in Hrudaya Hrudaya. Moreover, my husband and my family support me and that motivates me to balance work and personal life,” she adds.
The actress works at least 12 to 15 days a month and prefers to take care of the home front on the other days. “Raghu is really hard working, and works with complete dedication. We would love to work together in a film but it has to have a good story. We did get a few offers but we are waiting for that perfect one,” she adds.
Before concluding, the actress reveals that Raghu Mukherjee, who is a fitness buff, being a model and actor, has been her greatest motivator. She prefers yoga rather than hitting the gym religiously, like hubby dearest.
