Criticism doesn't really bother me: Nakuul Mehta
The actor talks about his grey role in the upcoming show, Ishqbaaz.
Nakuul Mehta who played a lovable boy in Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, is doing away with his nice guy image. The actor will essay a grey character, Shivaay, in the upcoming show Ishqbaaz. However this decision is giving the actor sleepless nights. He says, “Adi in Pyaar ka Dard… was lovable. It was very difficult to not like him. Shivaay, on the other hand, is someone who audiences will hate. His pride reflects in his arrogance. The circumstances in which he has grown have made him proud about his family name, money, and background”
Nakuul states that he took up this role because it will give him a chance to present his acting chops to his fans. But the experiment could backfire for Nakuul, whose fans are already disappointed with his choice of role. “As an actor, it’s interesting to do things which are different but I am worried if people will connect with the role. Going by my look for Shivaay, my fans are wondering what has Adi done to himself. But I think it’s my job as an actor to make Shivaay believable. It looks different from what is going up on TV right now. In fact, it reminds me of the content I used to watch growing up,” reasons Nakuul, who is excited to be back on screen.
Call it coincidence or a curse, the actor seems to only be offered roles of rich spoilt brats on the screen. Nakuul seems to be at peace with the roles that are offered to him. He says, “Honestly, I have very rarely been offered shows where I get to play the boy-next door. Once I was approached to play the role of a rickshawala but I don’t think I would be convincing as one. I only want to do good roles and this show gave me an opportunity to do that.”
The actor was in the news for producing and acting in a web series titled I Don’t Watch TV, a satire on the television industry. The actor is pretty excited about exploring new options and presenting something new. He says, “You shouldn’t be an actor if you don’t want to be judged. They will always judge you, call you good or bad. I want to be adventurous, learn, evolve and grow. The reactions I have got for my web series have been mixed. Most of them have come forth, and applauded. Criticism doesn’t really bother me.”
