Known for her different avatars in traditional tales, this actress is happy with the acclaim she is garnering for her role play.
From a small town in Gulbarga, this tennis player ventured into modelling. And then went onto create a niche for herself on Kannada television as one of the most popular goddesses in a mythological saga. First as Parvathi in Hara Hara Mahadeva, she got huge acclaim, and now she returns to play ‘Anjana’, the mother of Lord Hanuman in yet another mythological tale Jai Hanuman on Udaya TV. In between, the actress also had two movies in her kitty, one where she plays an innocent girl in a cute love story and another as a surrogate mother. Speaking to Bengaluru Chronicle, actress Priyanka Chincholi talks about her godly avatars, and her silver screen ventures and more.
“This is my second venture on television, and coincidentally both are mythologies. In Hara Hara Mahadeva, I portrayed Pravathi's role and I am currently having the best time portraying Anjana, the mother of Lord Hanuman in Jai Hanuman. There have been many who have played the role of Parvathi on television but the audience particularly loved me, and they still remember me for my work, and some refer to me as Karnataka’s Parvathi. What more can an actress ask for?” pipes actress Priyanka Chincholi.
The actress is also busy with movies she acts in Samayada Bombe directed by Sathish Pradhan of the Mada Mattu Manasi and Abhinetri fame. She plays an innocent village girl from Kundapura in a cute story and further as a Yashode in a yet-to-be titled film, where she will be seen as a surrogate mother.
“I seek uniqueness in scripts rather than taking up roles which are merely glamorous ones. A majority of commercial films heavily focus on heroism. Hence, I am particular about the kind of roles I am doing in movies. In Samayada Gombe, I am a girl who is dark in complexion, and then in another film, I am essaying the role of a surrogate mother which has a lot of meaning and depth to it,” she adds.
About choosing mythology, she explains that the audience is into such genres, so being a part of it makes sense. “Most social dramas revolve around negativity and in mythology, the subject cannot be altered. Viewers who have no time to learn about our culture, God and universal messages, are watching mythologies for the same reason. Moreover, they are made in a bigger way with the latest technology for an enhanced experience,” Priyanka adds.
With a packed schedule, when she gets the time, she goes shopping with her mother. She loves playing with her pets at home when not working.
