Enjoy three misty evenings of December in the company of some feel-good movies at Changampuzha Park. As curtains go up for the monthly film festival spread across December 16, 20 and 21, three movies are getting screened this time. Sudhendu Roy’s Uphaar, P. Bhaskaran’s Iruttinte Athmavu and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black.

Starring Jaya Bhaduri, Swarup Dutt and Kamini Kaushal, Uphaar was India’s pick for the best foreign language film at the 45th Academy Awards, though it was not accepted as a nominee. It is based on Rabindranath Tagore’s short story Samapti.

Iruttinte Athmavu is noted for Prem Nazir’s all time best performance as Bhranthan Velayudhan, a mentally retarded young man bound in chains. The movie was written by author M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Sharada plays the female lead. The movie bagged the National Film Award for best film on other social issues.

Inspired by the incidents in Helen Keller’s life, Black sketches the relation between a visual/auditory challenged girl and her teacher, who later develops Alzheimer’s disease. The movie starring Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan went on to win the 53rd National Film Award for best actor. The screening on 16th  and 21st are at 6 pm and on 20th at 6.30 pm.
