In short, it's shockingly sinful

For Vaisakh Mohanan and Ajishad V.P., filmmaking was always close to the heart. Despite a background in engineering and a lack of experience in movie making, the duo decided to cling onto their dream and make a short film. Vaisakh and Ajishad were particular about one thing -— they wanted to make sure the film had a very strong message for the public.

Directed by the duo, Sin is a 5.58 minute short film released this week. It has already become the talk of the town due to the stunning shock the film’s visuals offer. “A bunch of us who met out of our common love for filmmaking happened to come across a photograph of a dog running away with a dead foetus in its mouth. A disturbing footage was also circulating on WhatsApp,” says Vaisakh.

“That is when the idea to create a film to spread awareness on the grave subject of abortions struck us,” adds Ajishad who penned the script for Sin. Vaisakh goes on to say, “We always wanted to make a short film, but were not sure of the subject. We did not want to choose any random topic. It had to be a film that gave out a strong message.”

The short film stands out not just for the subject or its visuals but also for the fact that there is not a single dialogue in it. When asked about the lack of dialogues, Vaisakh says, “I have worked at various places across the country and thought that it would be good if my friends from these places could also understand, so Ajishad suggested that we will drop the dialogues and make it as crisp as possible.”

The duo opine that the act of abortion is taken very lightly. “After the movie was released, I was contacted by a few women who had to go through abortion in the early stages of pregnancy. They shared their experience and how they had spent sleepless nights after it,” says Ajishad.

Both Vaisakh and Ajishad are basking in the success of their hard work and they attribute it to their team. “It was a team work. We are currently planning our next project,” says Vaisakh.
