A dear baddie
Raj Arjun, the baddie of the Secret Superstar fame, opens up about his penchant for negative roles.
Having worked in several Bollywood and Tamil films, actor Raj Arjun recently made his Telugu debut with the film, Dear Comrade. His role has negative shades in the film, as did his earlier roles in films like Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar and the Tamil crime thriller Watchman, all of which won him laurels.
So what’s with taking on baddie roles, we wonder. “I think playing a baddie has more scope to unleash one’s acting potential. Also, such roles bring out an actor’s edgy side. I am always looking for roles that create impact, and am not concerned about screen time,” states Arjun, who says he wants to be remembered as a good actor. Describing his 15 years journey in the industry as an eventful one, Arjun states, “I have seen several ups and downs over the years. But I have also learned that we need to do our work and move on, irrespective of a film’s results.” The 45-year-old actor will next be seen as an Army officer in a forthcoming Karan-Johar production venture. “It is indeed a great opportunity to be part of Karan Johar’s film. I have completely transformed myself for the part,” he says.
Interestingly, his daughter, Sara Arjun, is a child artiste in films, too. “Sara was the one who suggested me to watch more southern films. She entered the south industry much before I did, and her film, Deiva Thirumagal was a blockbuster. So when I entered the industry, I was known as Sarah’s father. But I’m glad that people have also realised that her father can also act,” quips Raj, as he signs off.
