Mythri Movie Makers pats Centre's anti-piracy drive

Undoubtedly, film piracy is a big menace and causes huge revenue losses for filmmakers.

Leading Telugu production house Mythri Movie Makers thanked the Central Government for taking serious measures to curb film piracy. “Undoubtedly, film piracy is a big menace and causes huge revenue losses for filmmakers. Producers have been suffering a lot. Hence, we are glad that the Central Government is appointing nodal officers authorized to take necessary steps against piracy,” said Mythri Movie Makers.

Earlier, Union Minister Anurag Thakur in a video, claimed that movie piracy is causing 20,000 crore losses to the film and entertainment industry every year. “”We are aware of the sufferings of producers and technicians since they spend years making a film but lose out to piracy,” he says and adds, “So, Cinematograph Amendment Bill 2023 was passed in Parliament. Today, we have appointed nodal officers in the Ministry and in the CBFC Mumbai office and regional offices to receive complaints against piracy and direct intermediaries to take down pirated content on various platforms,” he informs.

He assures immediate action on complaints and warns of three years jail term and lakhs of compensation from rogue pirates under the new law as promised to Indian film industry. “We are determined to protect soft power and Indian content’ from piracy since stern action would act as a deterrent,” he adds.
