Rajinikanth Has An Uphill Task in Telugu States
It looks like Tamil superstar Rajinikanth will have a lot of difficulty in drawing huge openings for his upcoming film ‘Jailer’ in the two Telugu states. No doubt, his action-centric film being directed by Nelson has triggered enough hype and hoopla in Tamil Nadu. His speech at the audio function, referred to superstar status, amidst Vijay’s fans claiming him to be the number one hero in Kollywood.
Whereas, Tamannaah’s racy number ‘Kaavaalaa’ also attracted huge attention. “Rajinikanth’s popularity is unmatched in Tamil Nadu, but in Telugu states it will be difficult to draw openings because he has just one day(August 10) to garner big numbers. Since the next day, Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar will arrive in theatres in two Telugu states,” says an exhibitor.
The dubbed version is being released by reputed Sithara Entertainment and they are bound to grab more theatres for the ‘Kabali’ star in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. “The film is valued at Rs 6 to 7 crores, so first-day openings are crucial. If Rajinikanth attends any pre-release event in Hyderabad, it will give some boost to promotions and enthuse his Telugu fans. He is one Tamil star who had a decent market in Telugu but few flops dented his popularity,” the exhibitor adds.
With Tamil stars like Vijay, Suriya, and Karthi are making inroads in two Telugu states, Rajnikanth needs some luck besides his charisma and stylized mannerism to win the love of the Telugu audience once again.
