Right from school, Kunal Kaushik knew that he had to become an actor. “But like a typical Indian household would have it, I had to graduate, and make myself secure before pursuing my dream. I did just that,” he shares.

His latest release 16 – Every Detail Counts (Dhuruvangal Pathinaru in Tamil) was well received in Tamil and is in theatres in Telugu now. “The film changed my life. Earlier, when I had to introduce myself, I had to start from the beginning and explain what I am, what I have done and what I can do. Now, it’s like a new chapter! I can start from 16, and people are automatically interested. I feel blessed. And everything seems positive,” says the actor, who hails from Nuziveedu near Vijayawada.

Last seen in Ghazi in a small role, he has done quite some work in his mother tongue, Telugu too. “I started off with Muppalaneni Siva garu’s Lifestyle, and did two more films which never released! It was again in Siva garu’s Sri Sri that I got to play an important role alongside Krishna garu. Then, Ghazi and 16 happened,” he shares.

His debut in Tamil happened interestingly. “I love Malayalam and Tamil cinema and watched a lot of short films. If I liked any of them, I made an effort to contact the technicians of the film on social media. That’s how I met director Karthick Naren. Things eventually fell into place, and the film marked my new innings,” says the excited actor.
