Karan Johar's plan didn't work out
The re-release of Baahubali across screens in India met with a lukewarm response.
Recently, the makers of Baahubali decided to release the first part of the film all over India. Interestingly, they released only the Hindi version and not the Telugu one. Even in Hyderabad, they released only the Hindi version.
According to a source, this was Karan Johar’s idea, as he wanted to cash in on the film’s publicity and mania. “It was Karan’s idea to release the Hindi version throughout India in more than 1,000 screens. But it turned out to be a flop as no one showed interest to watch the film in Hyderabad,” says a source. Apparently, the idea backfired and they even incurred losses as they have to pay the rent to the theatres.
“In Hyderabad, even on the weekends, only ten per cent of the theatre was filled, and in many theatres, they replaced this film with others after the lukewarm response,” says a top film distributor. Even in Mumbai, the response was not up to the mark. Seems like it was a bad idea on KJo’s part!
