Age is just a number
Bhumika feels that actresses heading towards 40 should not be stereotyped.
After appearing as Nani’s sister-in-law in Middle Class Abbayi last year, Bhumika Chawla is now doing a thriller titled U Turn. And though her role is small, the actress says that it is very important to the film.
“I have never done this kind of character before in my career, so it is exciting for me,” says Bhumika, adding, “Even if I have two to three scenes, leaving an impact on the audience is important.” The actress says that she is always looking to do different roles. “From the beginning of my career, you will find at least five per cent difference from one character to another,” says Bhumika, who is all praise for lead actress Samantha.
“She is a very intense and her expressions are brilliant. I saw two of her films — Eega and Rangasthalam,” says Bhumika. The actress reveals that she has good offers both in Telugu and Tamil.
“But I have a four-year-old kid and don’t want him to miss his school. So before I sign a film, I look at the team because the people have to be good,” she states. Bhumika feels that actresses heading towards 40 should not be stereotyped.
“Women who are over 40 or heading towards the 40s should do a lot of good work, not just stereotyped characters like bhabhi, aunty and mother. Look at Vidya Balan. Though she is nearing 40, she is still doing great work and woman-centric films just like Malaika Arora who is 40 plus, but one of the hottest women in Bollywood. I think the change will happen here also,” she says optimistically.
