Tollywood backs boycott Maldives campaign, to Scout Alternate Locations

In solidarity with the nation and its wide culture, the members of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees have decided to boycott Maldives for their shooting locations. Instead, the FWICE appeals to its members to choose similar locations in India for their shooting purpose and contribute towards developing tourism in India. “We haven’t received any letter yet but we truly understand the spirit behind the statement. Hence, Telugu film industry supports the decision taken by Federation of Western India Cine Employees who are asking producers to refrain from shooting their movies in Maldives and instead shoot within India,” says T Prasanna Kumar, Treasurer, Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, who recalls ‘derogatory’ comments made by three Maldives junior ministers against Prime Minister of India. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the pride of India and any comments against such a revered leader should be condemned and banished,” he added.

He claimed that members of Telugu Film Producers Council are also planning to shoot their movies in alternate locations since the boycott Maldives campaign is heating up across India. “Telugu producers understand the boycott campaign and are going to support it in all forms. We don’t have an exact number of movies being planned in Maldives. However, they would be shooting in other locations which are more picturesque and beautiful, “ he adds.

Earlier some Telugu films like ‘Ninne Pelladutha’ and ‘Khadgam’ have been shot in Maldives and mostly songs were picturised in those exotic beaches. “Film industry's decision would surely dent the earnings of the government in Maldives. Insulting our country, has dealt a heavy blow to their exchequer and deservingly so,” concludes Prasanna Kumar.
