I picked up Telugu in three months, says Samyuktha Hegde
Life has changed completely. Being an actress is hard because we need to look good all the time.
Two years after Samyuktha Hegde made her acting debut with Kannada film Kirik Party, she’s making her Tollywood debut in the Telugu remake of the same film, titled Kirrak Party.
Explaining why she decided to reprise her role, Samyuktha says, “As an actor, I wanted to see if I have ‘grown up’ in comparison to the same role.”
She adds, “The role was realistic and I connected to it. It’s about a tomboy who doesn’t care about the world, and is madly in love with a guy. So I could relive my school life, where I had a crush on my senior. In fact, I always like men with a good body and a nice voice.”
Did she face any challenges in reprising the character? “I didn’t know Telugu, but I learnt the language in three months and even dubbed for my lines, just like the Kannada film,” she says, adding, “I had several lengthy dialogues to say and it wasn’t easy (smiles). But as an actor, I wanted to learn and push myself.”
For someone who is a college dropout, the life of an actress has been challenging. “Being an actress is very hard because we need to look good all the time. I was a tomboy in school, but now I have to apply face creams, de-tan, etc, which I never did before,” shares Samyuktha, adding, “I had to drop out of college because of showbiz offers and dance. Life has changed completely and I am now becoming a lady.”
Samyuktha admits, “Initially it was difficult to get used to being an actress, but now I am pretty cool. And the best part is taking care of yourself and looking good. It’s a fun thing because I am getting paid as well.”
She describes the team of her Telugu debut as “young and exuberant,” adding, “Director Sharan Koppisetty supported me throughout the project.”
