Head Constable Venkataramaiah could not find a single theatre in Andhra Pradesh for screening.

Popularly known as the ‘People’s Star’, actor R. Narayana Murthy’s film Head Constable Venkataramaiah released on January 14, a couple of days after the two other big Sankranti releases — Khaidi No. 150 and Gautamiputra Satakarni. However, producer and director Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao is angry that his film didn’t get a single theatre in Andhra Pradesh for screening.

“When I started the shoot, I announced that my film is releasing for Sankranti. I got 23 theatres in Nizam, but couldn’t find a single theatre in Andhra Pradesh. I appeal to the Film Chamber to do something to encourage small films and help them get theatres,” says the producer who has been in the industry for the last four decades.

R. Narayana Murthy also appealed to both the State governments to intervene and make sure that small films get a good release. “I visited Rajahmundry and met my fans and friends. They were all positive about my film, but said that they couldn’t see it because it didn’t get a release there,” says Murthy. He adds that most of the theatres were allotted to other festival releases. “There’s nothing wrong with a big release, but I request them to allot some screens for small films too,” he adds. Jayasudha plays the female lead opposite Murthy in this film.
