Aditi Arya, who represented India at the Miss World pageant last year, joins the brigade of beauty queens entering the film industry. She will soon be making her Telugu debut with Ism, opposite Kalyanram.

“It’s been an amazing experience. Every day is a new challenge and brings excitement. Though the language was a bit problematic during the first few days, it was not really difficult later on. I used to practice my lines and prepare for the shoot,” says Aditi, adding that she took help from the assistant directors while recording her lines.

Talking about the Telugu song-dance routine, she says, “The music and dance style here is slightly more pumped up. I watched many Telugu song videos on YouTube while preparing for my role.” Her experiences in street theatre during her college days and acting workshops after winning the title, have also helped her.

Director Puri Jagannadh was looking for a new face and found Aditi through an agency in Mumbai. “I was given a long Telugu script for my audition,” remembers Aditi. “But I used to watch many Telugu films dubbed in Hindi and knew most of the actors here. Also, Puri has changed the lives of many girls being launched in the Telugu film industry.” She admits, “Initially I was nervous, but everyone is down-to-earth here and made me feel comfortable.”

Aditi is looking forward to a career in Tollywood. “I want to stay here for a while and hope this film does well. Based on this film’s success, I can get better work. I dream of working with all the top and best actors and directors here,” she says, adding that language is not a barrier for her. “I want to work in all languages, whether it’s Tamil, English or Spanish. A good script matters the most,” she adds.

About her future plans and the kind of cinema she wants to choose, Aditi says, “I am not confined to only one particular genre as I would like to act in regular commercial cinema and also do offbeat or artistic films.” Hyderabad is not new to Aditi as she had enrolled her name in the young leader’s programme at ISB (Indian School of Business).
