Cinema is an amalgam of emotions: Richard Prasad
The cinematographer states that putting himself in the shoes of an assistant director is one of the reasons why he is tasting success.
Richard Prasad is a renowned technician who has cranked the camera for films like Swamy Ra Ra, Kotha Janta, Babu Bangaram and Dochey. So it comes as no surprise that his latest film, Oh! Baby has been garnering great acclaim for the film’s visual appeal.
The cinematographer states that putting himself in the shoes of an assistant director is one of the reasons why he is tasting success. “I observe the way directors bring out the emotions in scenes and actors. So it is important that we travel with the filmmaker to understand his vision,” states Richard Prasad, adding, “Basically, cinema is an amalgam of emotions.”
Prasad also admits that his earlier experiences have come in handy while doing fantasy projects like Oh! Baby. “I have learnt a lot over the years about the colour palettes to be used, lighting, etc. But most importantly, for a fantasy film like Oh! Baby, what’s crucial is to understand the tone of the colors,” he explains.
While a cinematographer has the luxury of watching the film even as it is being made, Prasad states that it gives him an opportunity to rectify errors, if any.
“Watching the film from the director’s point of view gives me an opportunity to see if the scene is carrying the message intended by him or not,” he says.
