Suman’s century
Suman, who has just finished his 100th film as a lead actor, reveals he will soon direct a martial arts film.
Suman, one of the versatile actors in Tollywood, who has acted in many languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, English, Oriya, Marathi and Hindi, has completed his 100th film as a lead actor with the devotional film, Ayyappa Katakasham. “It’s a great and yet unexpected achievement for me. I did 99 films as lead actor long back but never expected that I would do my 100th. That happened by God’s grace I think,” says Suman humbly.
Suman has, till date, worked in 450 films, having done action, devotional and historical roles, and he hopes to continue doing more films. And given the number of good roles filmmakers have scripted for him, he certainly seems there’s more films lined up for the actor.
Incidentally, the actor claims to have introduced martial arts into southern cinema, first in Tamil and later in Telugu. “I know martial arts and in the future I want to direct a film based on martial arts. I am working on the story now. But I am also planning to shoot that film in places such as Vietnam where there are many martial art schools,” he says.
The actor has played negative roles in Tamil and Hindi (Gabbar is Back) although not yet in Telugu. “I haven’t got a good negative role in Telugu, but if it comes along, I am ready to do it,” he says simply.
