He stands accused of distributing money to voters during the campaign for the Nandyal Assembly by-election.
Mumbai: A petition has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the Election Commission to initiate action against actor and TD legislator N. Balakrishna for distributing money to voters during the campaign for the August 23 Nandyal Assembly by-election.
YSRC general secretary K. Shiva Kumar, moved the petition alleging that the MLA had distributed money to voters on August 16 during his road show at Nandyal.
He told the court though they have filed a complaint with the Election Commission with photographs showing the MLA distributing money, the commission had not taken action against the MLA. He urged the court to direct the EC to take action against Mr Balakrishna.
Asking what was wrong if a playground was converted into a park, the Hyderabad High Court refused to stay the GHMC’s work in Bharathnagar Colony here on Tuesday.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J. Uma Devi was dealing with a PIL filed by one P. Nagi Reddy seeking a direction to the GHMC to stop all further activity on the playground.
Counsel for the petitioner said that students of nearby private schools were using the ground, and they would be deprived for space if the park were to come up.
The bench expressed displeasure at a private school management using the GHMC playground as its own. The bench said the citizens were crying for lung space and there was a dire need of having more parks.
The judges said construction of parks was the duty of the government and asked the petitioner law which allowed the courts to interfere in the construction of the parks.
The bench said it was the duty of the school management to provide a play ground to their students when they are collecting huge fees.
The bench cited an example of a management that had obtained permission to run a school, stating that it had a a play ground. It turned out that the playground was located in Ghatkesar. How can the students go and play in Ghatkesar, the bench asked.
The bench said the playground was meant for the children of local residents. If the government decided to construct the park, the court would not interfere.
