With the #MeToo movement gaining momentum, stars are divided on whether it’s a boon or a curse. Some call it the need of the hour, while others caution of the likelihood of it being misused. We talk to actor Vishal, who is in town to promote his film Pandem Kodi 2, and ask him what he thinks of the campaign. “We are going to form a three-member committee to look into the grievances and also counsel the newcomers entering the industry,” the actor begins by saying.

He adds that while he is sympathetic towards the victims, he expects those making public accusations to provide some evidence of harassment.

“It is easy to accuse someone, but that person’s name is ruined even before he can fight the accusation legally and prove his innocence. So I appeal to everyone to come up with some evidence before making an accusation. We are ready to help anyone who comes out with proof,” Vishal says.

The actor adds, “When the same thing happened to Amala Paul, she immediately called me, and I asked Karthi to help her out. We filed a complaint with the police and had the man arrested. She didn’t keep silent, she had that boldness. Everyone should come out openly with evidence.”

In the recent past, the actor has shown an increasing interest in the political scenario of Tamil Nadu. He even wanted to contest in Jayalalithaa’s constituency after her death, but his application was rejected by the election commission. Of his political aspirations and his future plans, he says, “I have openly said that I want to contest from Karunanidhi’s constituency, but the election commission has postponed the elections because of the bad climate. What do I do? I want to start a “don’t take money for your vote” campaign.” Meanwhile, rumours doing the rounds suggest that Vishal is all set to marry his co-star Varalakshmi, the daughter of Sarath Kumar. He says, “She is my best friend and soulmate. And like my parents, I will also have a love marriage, that much I can tell you,” adding that he only wants to get married after the Nadigar Sangam building is completed.”
