After Keerthy Suresh and Neha Shetty who played mothers in films like ‘Penguin’ and ‘Gangs of Godavari,’, now it is the turn of 20-year-old actress Krithi Shetty to play a matured role in ‘Manamey’. “She almost played a mother in the film although she is just a caretaker and her feelings towards the kid were genuine. In fact, the kid calls her mother without knowing that she is a friend of his deceased mother and was just a caretaker,” says a producer, who claims that it was a bit risky for the young diva. “Such roles will fetch her accolades but dents her young diva image a bit since she is just 20 years old,” he adds.
It looks like young actresses are game for motherly roles since it gives them some variety amidst regular roles. “Krithi has just begun her career with films like ‘Uppena’, ‘Custody’ and ‘Warrior,’ so it was too early for the young sensation to try out something different rather than safely sticking to lover girl and bubbly roles reflecting her age and good looks,” he points out.
Right now, she is doing Tamil films 'Genie' with Jayam Ravi and also signed another Tamil film to expand her footprint in Kollywood. ‘She will return to Tollywood with a plum offer,’ he concludes.
