Vijay Sethupathi Tops Vikram with Rs 4 Crore Telugu Dubbing Deal
Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has reportedly surpassed his colleague Vikram in terms of Telugu film market appeal, securing a hefty Rs 4 crore deal for the Telugu dubbing rights of his upcoming film Vidudala 2. According to a leading distributor, Sethupathi’s growing popularity among Telugu audiences, fueled by his recent hit Maharaja, has helped him clinch the deal, while Vikram’s Veer Dheera Soora is struggling to find buyers, with negotiations still underway.
Sethupathi’s rise in Telugu cinema has been bolstered by his successful ventures, including his appearance in Maharaja, which grossed over Rs 10 crore. This success has given him an edge over Vikram, who despite past blockbusters like Sivaputhrudu and Aparachitudu, has faced setbacks with flops like Sketch and Swamy Square. While Vikram’s performance in the Ponniyin Selvan series provided some relief, his recent film Thangaalan failed to make a significant impact in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Distributors in the region often rely on the success of an actor’s most recent releases to gauge their marketability, which has worked in Sethupathi’s favor. His performances in films like Uppenna, Vikram, and Master, particularly in darker roles, have expanded his fan base, leading to a shift in focus from negative roles to more hero-centric characters. This strategic shift has cemented his position as a rising star in the Telugu film industry, surpassing Vikram for now.
